2021 MPI Manufacturing Study
Manufacturing a Post-Pandemic Future
The MPI Manufacturing Study is the world’s most comprehensive collection of manufacturing benchmarks on a plant level.
The 2021 study, Manufacturing a Post-Pandemic Future, examines manufacturing performances and practices in the United States and around the globe in 2019 and 2020 amid the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. With data collected before and during the pandemic, the study provides a window into the effects of the crisis on each of the following functions.
- Human Resources: turnover and absenteeism, median wages, finding skilled workers, HR programs/practices in use, % of production employees in empowered work teams.
- Operations: improvement methodologies followed, improvement programs/practices, production and plant performance metrics, total production output, per-unit manufacturing costs.
- Supply Chain: nature of supplier and customer relationships, customer reject rates, customer retention rates, international sales, imported materials and components, programs and practices in place.
- Capital Equipment and Information Technology: production volume, machine availability, operating equipment efficiency, technology investments and upgrades, technology effect on productivity.
- Green/Sustainability: green products, products with documented carbon footprints, renewable energy, green programs and practice in place.
